The Occultic;Nine visual novel is an adaptation of the Japanese light novel series Occultic;Nine, originally written by Chiyomaru Shikura. The visual novel adaptation for the light novel series was originally announced in March 2015. The game was developed by MAGES and released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox One in Japan on November 9, 2017.
Development and Release[]
The game was developed by MAGES and released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Xbox One in Japan on November 9, 2017; it had originally been planned for September 28 as a digital-only release, but was delayed due to the addition of a physical release following complaints by fans. The physical PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions were additionally made available in a limited edition that includes a drama CD and a 64-page materials collection.
However, the Occultic;Nine visual novel, which has remained Japan-exclusive to this day, is especially infamous for being released in an unfinished state. Waves of demands for fixes to this product occurred since its release, and developer MAGES eventually promised a free DLC/re-shipment titled Occultic;Nine: New World that would remedy its incomplete conclusion. Unfortunately, chief MAGES executive Chiyomaru Shikura officially confirmed in a recent livestream of his that plans for this resolved state have been canceled.
Moreover, he stated that if he were to revisit Occultic;Nine, it would be via a potential Occultic;Nine Elite, a remake more akin to Robotics;Notes Elite instead of Steins;Gate Elite.
